Design Workshop April 7-8, 2003Stanford University Ventura Hall, Room V17 Notes from the Meeting by Ron Lichty The purpose of the workshop is to demonstrate and discuss the prototype in progress, as well as discuss further issues with regard to the design of the system. ScheduleMonday April 7, 2003 General Discussion on Pattern Languages, Knowledge-based collaboration. This discussion will be at a fairly abstract level, dealing with knowledge representation, pattern languages, and styles of discourse, and may not be of interest to all participants. 1:00 Introduction. Tom Munnecke will discuss the role of pattern languages and uplift, illustrated with the Uplift Linguistic Shell. 2:00 Introduction to Nooron. Shawn Murphy will discuss his ideas of a bootstrapping knowledge based system at www.nooron.org 3:00-5:00 Other discussion of pattern languages and knowledge-based approaches. Tuesday April 8, 2003 9:30 Meet and get parking passes. Participants may stop by the conference room to pick up complementary parking passes. 10:00 Technical discussion. This will include a technical discussion of the underlying technology, a demonstration of the current state of the prototype, and a survey of other tools and technologies which may be of interest. The current version of the prototype is available at www.upspace.org/academy 10:30- 11:30 Sergio Lub, Social Networks/Complementary Currency: One of the founders of Friendly Favors, www.favors.org will discuss the role of social networks, complementary currencies, and how these might be used in our efforts. 11:30 - 12:00 Aldo de Moor, from Tilburg University in The Netherlands, will speak on Language and Action, and how positive discourse can shape action. 12:00-1:00 Lunch 1:00-1:30 Tom Munnecke Uplift Patterns and Uplift Tapestries. This is a time to discuss and/or demonstrate some of the collaboration technologies and approaches for effective communities. 2:00-3:00 Brainstorming: How can we apply these ideas to HIV/AIDS Orphans in Africa? This workshop is a follow on meeting to the March and Feb 2003 design workshop at Stanford, and a continuation of the meetings held by GivingSpace at the Benton Foundation, Santa Fe Institute, and Asilomar.
