Uplift Starter Kit

What is the simplest set of documents and procedures we can use to create a self-organizing, self-propagating kit to be downloaded via the Internet?

This will also be discussed at the "Technologies and Approaches to Support an Uplift Pattern Language Workshop" at Stanford University, Summer, 2003

Mac Odell will be writing a concept paper and prototype plan.  It will consist of:

– a two page “meaty” section, with links as appropriate to other, deeper stuff.  Also, the kit is about creating an action-oriented node in a network, and linking these nodes together (what is called a group-forming network… a groups consisting of other groups…) and ways of feeding back to each other Things That Work.  Our target population is based on the “energy” of the folks, not the “power” structures.  For example, we may want to reach a very energetic woman in a village, not the village chief.  We are giving these folks a voice and an opportunity to give and tell their story, not financial handouts, so this should allow the network to expand by self-selecting those who have the right orientation.  Those looking for power or handouts will not find the network attractive, which simplifies the growth process…
